Data usage

What impacts data usage?

All downloaded and uploaded data via your Sparklight Internet service counts towards your data plan. There are two main contributors to your monthly data usage:

your activity
Your Activity

How you use your internet impacts your data usage. Streaming an hour-long show for an hour uses a higher amount of data than an hour of checking emails.

your device
Your Devices

The number of devices connected to your internet and the number of people using these devices in your household also impacts data usage. More devices connected to the same network means more data being used.

What happens if I go over my data plans?

For those that do not have an unlimited data plan, if you go over your internet data plan, we’ll automatically add another 100GB for $10 and so on until you reach our $40 limit of data overages within that billing cycle.

If you continually exceed your data plan, you might consider upgrading to a higher data plan or simply add the unlimited data option to your current plan for an additional $30/month.

Track your household data usage

Sparklight will automatically notify you via text message and/or email when you pass certain thresholds of data usage during your cycle. Make sure to register for a Sparklight online account to manage your notification preferences and access your data usage history.

View your data usage anytime by logging into your Sparklight online account. Manage how you receive alerts by clicking on Profile Settings.

How to Lower your Data Usage

1

Higher quality settings in streaming apps and websites such as HD and 4K consume a large amount of data. Consider adjusting your video quality settings within your streaming apps.

2

Disable the auto-play feature on streaming apps.

3

Close out apps you are no longer using because they continue to consume data when left running.

4

Reduce resolution and upload frequency on security cameras. Or select to record only when motion is detected instead of 24x7.

number 5

Cloud file backups happen automatically in the background. Consider adjusting your settings to backup only important files.
