Sparklight Awards $2,500 to Syringa Middle School for STEM Education
May 5, 2023 – Caldwell, Idaho – Sparklight® today announced Syringa Middle School is a winner of its fifth annual “Dream Bigger” social media campaign, which awards $2,500 each to six schools and organizations providing K-12 students with STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.
Syringa Middle School has an innovative program that uses 3D printing to teach students about design, engineering and computing. The Sparklight grant will be used to help purchase two new printers and expand the program’s reach.
“We are thrilled to be able to extend our 3D printing explorations to new heights,” said sixth-grade science teacher Kristy Rudan. “Our students will be challenged in many new and exciting ways by not only designing larger projects, but also by exploring different kinds of materials and their uses.”
“Sparklight is committed to giving back to the communities we serve, and we are proud to play a part in helping to develop the technological skills of our future leaders,” said Sparklight Regional General Manager Jay Macleod. “We look forward to seeing what the Syringa Middle School students are able to accomplish with this additional funding.”
This year, more than 100 schools and organizations from communities in the 21 states Sparklight serves submitted entries outlining how the award would be used to fund their STEM projects, and how the projects benefit students. The winners were determined by public voting and will be highlighted on Sparklight’s social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram.
Since 2019, Sparklight and the associated Cable One family of brands have awarded nearly $120,000 to STEM projects through its “Dream Bigger” initiative.
