Sparklight® Awards $15,000 for STEM Education
through 2024 ‘Dream Bigger’ Campaign
April 16, 2024 – Phoenix – Sparklight® announced the winners of its sixth annual “Dream Bigger” social media campaign, which awards $2,500 each to six schools and organizations providing STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education to K-12 students.
“We are pleased to help fund these innovative and exciting STEM-based initiatives and enhance the learning opportunities of students in our communities,” said Trish Niemann, Vice President of Communications Strategy. “STEM education helps students develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed for their future academic and career success.”
Nearly 100 schools and organizations submitted entries outlining how the award would be used to fund their STEM projects, and how the projects benefit students. Determined by public voting, this year’s winners include:
- Leon Taylor Middle School – Ingleside, Texas
The school’s rapidly growing STEM program enables sixth- to eighth-grade students to learn AutoCAD and other engineering designs. The award will be used to purchase a desktop computer and scanner for students to produce realistic projects on a 3-D printer.
- Mater Dei Elementary School STEAM Lab – Sioux City, Iowa
The award will be used to purchase resources and teacher curricula for the hands-on STEAM lab used by kindergarten through fourth-grade students.
- North Pike District/North Pike Elementary, Gifted Program – Summit, Miss.
This unique program provides second- to fourth-grade, intellectually gifted students with access to STEAM learning. The award will cover Legos and storage needed to complete projects, as well as production equipment for creating videos for the program’s YouTube channel. - North Woolmarket Middle School, Robotics Program – Biloxi, Miss.
The robotics program will utilize the award to purchase additional class materials, hardware and supplies to better support the learning environment and participate in competitions.
- Pinckneyville Public Library Technological Project – Pinckneyville, Ill.
This library-run initiative gives rural-area teenagers access to computer science training that builds skills across programming languages, operating systems, hardware, electrical components, variable power supplies and software. The award will help fortify program resources.
- St. Joseph High School – Victoria, Texas
The award will provide tools to launch a new, senior-level course using STEM concepts to teach students about personal finance, investing, loans, data tracking, rocket design and testing, city planning and more.
The winners were announced on Sparklight's social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram.
Since 2019, Sparklight and the associated Cable One family of brands have awarded nearly $150,000 through the Dream Bigger initiative.
